WHY DOES FUNCTIONAL ART WORK?
A new trend is abound in the art world....we are seeing fine art or should I say #functional #art everywhere...from #cell phone covers to #hats and #leggings and #throwpillows....artists, interior designers, art collectors are all vying to get their images onto and into a place for all the world to see!
Functional Art has found its place in our current world amidst the array of original art, limited edition giclee prints and other fine art items. Why? Well people have always been collectors of things...why would images that make you smile and make your life so much brighter not be a sought after item, any time of the year!
For me, as an artist, I am here to spread my light in the world via my images....the reward for me is knowing I am lifting spirits and lending comfort where much is needed.
Art Heals Thank You For Believing!

ART-DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT?
ART - DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT?
By Lily Navawww.lilynavagallery.com
I have been a creative person since I was allowed to use crayons!
Creating things that I could play with or use in my grade school assignments from what I colored or designed was my escape... I would look for paper scraps, cardboard, fabric and really anything that I could incorporate into my final production or should I say, self-made "trophy" that I would later share with family members.
In grade school we created what was known as a "diarama" which consisted of a shoebox that I had the task of not only telling a story, but it was my job to illustrate the scene, characters and functioning pieces! I took my diaramas very seriously, survived life's ups and downs to become a very creative adult.
However, we all know that the world of fine art is highly competitive and not about shoebox diaramas. With this said, my drive to create images to later become part of functional art or some other product it is of no surprise to me in that I am always looking at how things work and/or don't work!
While art in various forms has been around since the beginning of time, it has changed its face and increased momentum recently finding its place among clothing, personal items, etc.
Just like the diarama of yesterday told the story in grade school, the art of today when it shows up on more than just canvas, gives us a feeling that there is something right with the world, that a brighter and better tomorrow is possible, and just maybe, that anything is possible!
I believe, that as an artist, it is my responsibility to share my artistic vision and bring light into the dark corners of our planet. Maybe even turn on some more lights in those already lit up areas.
The process of creation has no boundaries.
I see myself as an advocate and voice for all things that are ART. Why wouldn't I be in love with ART? Recalling how healing it was to express my childhood emotions outside the lines with my first love of art, crayons! While my images may have started with crayons, it has grown to creating images that evoke emotion, speak to humanity and advocate peace.
While the diarama might be a thing of the past and since replaced with technology and graphic design, the dream of creation started with our imagination, our essence and the longing to fulfill that desire for that something more, we knew existed, somewhere, in the landscape of our playgrounds.
As a creative, developing strategies to stay current and develop new techniques is essential... I have tried painting with rag, sponges, every type of cloth, my hands and fingers to create that which has not been seen, at least, not on my canvas, just yet! One of my favorites things to do is to seek out other creative people and "talk art."
What I urge you to keep in mind is that first art experience where you colored outside the lines and it really didn't matter. Imagine doing this every time you create. Its called "no boundaries."
ART HEALS THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING!

FUNCTIONAL ART, WHY DOES IT WORK?
Functional Art, while it is a trend that has been around for some time, it has increased momentum and found its place among original fine art, fine art limited edition giclees, fine art prints and other mediums of art works for art lovers worldwide!
Functional art has also taken residence in small businesses, art galleries, furniture and clothing stores, department stores and malls.
The trend of functional art offers artists a platform in which to incorporate unique one of a kind works into consumer's personal belongings, gift giving, and home and office décor.
Functional art gives us a feeling that there is something right with the world...that a brighter and better tomorrow is possible, and just maybe, that anything is possible!
I believe, that as an artist, it is my responsibility to share my artistic visions and to bring lighter into the dark corners of our planet...maybe even turn on some more lights in those already lit up! The process of creation has no boundaries nor does making a choice that there is light and not darkness and where darkness exists, we can make a difference by choosing to do so.
Wave-maker and peace advocate, Lisa Schulz, of the Whole 9 Gallery and her peace project team take the task of world peace and functional art to another dimension...check out their functional art shop at http://thewhole9gallery.myshopify.com/collections/functional-art
I am also compelled to mention that Lisa and her peace project team gathers images each year from hundreds of artist to raise funds for peace centers and health care and devices for 3rd world locations http://www.thewhole9.com/thepeaceproject-home.php read the story at above link.
I have been an advocate of functional art for some time, and very inspired by Lisa's efforts for peace and their inspired functional art...having participated in the Peace Project since its inception in 2010!
Inspiration goes far in my world...I just knew I had to do something about those thin, dull and bacteria filled mats that take residence in our belongings, homes, gyms and studios...see these eco Healing Art Yoga Mats at http://www.lilynavagallery.com/#!customyogamats/ck0q.
A happy, colorful and functional place our world of consumer products is becoming with the assistance of artists and designers. I have joined that team of visionaries...visit my creations at Art of Where at http://artofwhere.com/shop/artist/1864 and Society 6 at http://society6.com/LILYNAVAGALLERY

Inspired by Greek mythology, Aurora, Goddess of the Dawn, flew across the sky each day to invoke the arrival of the sun. Travelling in and out of the physical world into other realms she summoned light to realms saturated in darkness due to the struggle between the spirit and physical worlds. Aurora’s affinity was with both worlds, she could not choose. It was this love that caused a transformation between worlds and before the sun could make its way out...she summoned the spirits of the Northern Lights, shifting the veil, between worlds, bringing forth the Oneness. And so it was that the Northern Lights began their eternal dance, and to this day, they bring light to the darkest parts of the world constantly shifting to bring about change, oneness and universal peace.
